Vending by JSR’s LockBlox egg vending machine was mentioned on BBC Radio 1 Thursday morning (16th of march).
After several videos of egg vending machines started going viral on the popular social media app TikTok, this caught the attention of BBC Radio 1 presenter Greg David. On Thursday morning, Craig began to tell his many listeners about the egg vending machine he saw on TikTok, expressing how much he loved this idea. Declaring that if anyone were at an egg vending machine, he would have them on the radio to chat about it. Although we could not get to one of the egg vending machines nearby in time, a gentleman (Craig) arrived at the ‘Hens on the Hills’ LockBlox vending machine and called in.
Speaking to Greg James on the radio, the Hens on the Hill customer described the LockBlox vending machine as “it’s big, lots of big trays of eggs, you’ve got a dozen eggs, half dozen eggs, there’s just lots of eggs”. He went on to say, “the birds are in at the moment, but usually then birds are out and walking around behind the vending machine”. Greg James asked the customer to describe the purchasing process to the radio 1 listeners. Craig explained, “we have a touch screen, it’s got a picture of it all on (the products), you choose how many eggs you want, go to payment, we will choose contactless, that pop is a safe door that pops open (once paid), pull out your tray of eggs and the light will go off. We have now dispensed eggs from the vending machine, ready to be filled up again”. Greg James was a fan of the LockBlox system used to sell farm eggs, “It’s fresh, it comes straight from the farm and straight from the hen.”
James Nuttal from Hens on the Hill started with a 34-locker vending machine to sell his free-range eggs on his farm. He has now grown his machine to a 58 locker Vending Machine to sell trays, dozens and half dozens of eggs. Along with a Flex machine integrated into his LockBlox to vend items such as milkshakes, cheeses, jams and more. We have not had the chance to chat with James about what his shop has been like since the shoutout on radio 1. However, he did post on his Facebook page to say he was completely sold out of eggs by noon on Saturday and couldn’t believe how busy he has been since the radio 1 shoutout. I am going to presume this has helped his business.
